There are several ways in which the environment can be affected by lighting. This can be broken down into two main groups, those which are detrimental to the GLOBAL and those detrimental to the LOCAL environmental conditions.
Our GLOBAL environment is effected by man's consumption of the Earth's natural resources through the generation of energy. With a finite amount of natural resources on Earth, combined with our fundamental requirement for light, we should do whatever necessary to utilise light effectively and efficiently, maximising the use of natural daylight and minimising the need for and use of electric lighting at times when it is not required. And for the hours of darkness light should be applied carefully making sure that it is never left on when not required and that the energy being consumed is being done so efficiently.
The impact upon the LOCAL environment relates to the application and use of Light at night. In particular the unwanted effects of exterior lighting, what is often referred to as Obtrusive Light. This can take various forms but in general the unwanted effects of lighting are SKY GLOW, GLARE and LIGHT TRESPASS.
Whether designing a building to be the most energy effcient, maximising natural light or evaluating the impact lighting may have upon both the GLOBAL and LOCAL environment, Lighting Analysts provide a range of services tailored to your particular requirements, call us todayto discuss your particular requirements!
